Intellego Kolbroek 2013

Kolskoot.

Kolskoot.

By all accounts, 2013 was a much more favourable vintage than 2012 in the Swartland and it shows particularly in the case of the single-vineyard Syrah called Kolbroek that Jurgen Gouws makes under his Intellego label.

On the nose, red and black fruit, spice and a little Swartland earthiness. Good concentration, bright acidity and firm but not aggressive tannins. The wine underwent 100% whole bunch fermentation but is not attenuated or too stalky as can be the case with such wines – it possesses proper mid-palate. A really well balanced, classy offering. Not yet released.

Score: 93/100.

So I guess one would have to ask Jurgen OFF THE RECORD for the story behind the wine’s name… :-)
