Proefkonyn Gamay Noir Cinsault 2021
By Christian Eedes, 13 March 2025

A blend of 64% Stellenbosch Gamay Noir, made by Lourens with a portion of whole-bunch fermentation, and 36% Swartland Cinsault, crafted by friend and cellarmate Lukas van Loggerenberg, the wine was matured for 10 months in older oak.
The nose offers red and black berries, fynbos, rose, and a touch of earth, while the palate remains remarkably youthful – juicy fruit, bright acidity, and lightly grippy tannins. Pure and poised, it carries a modest 12.5% alcohol yet delivers impressive concentration. Price: R205 a bottle.
CE’s rating: 92/100.
