Beaumont New Baby 2023

Sebastian Beaumont of Beaumont Family Wines in Bot River describes New Baby as a “no-rules white blend from our three oldest white vineyards.” The newly released 2023 (R495 a bottle) comprises 43% Chenin Blanc (from vines planted in 1974 and 1978), 28.5% Sauvignon Blanc (1983) and 28.5% Colombar (1988).
Matured for 12 months in mostly older 400-litre barrels, the nose shows a leesy top note ahead of lime, lemon, peach and a touch of herbaceousness. The palate is concentrated, even luscious but also has assertive acidity, the finish savoury. It all makes for a rather particular drinking experience. Alc: 13%.
