Baleia Limitados current releases

Baleia is the only winery in the Lower Duivenhoks River district in the Cape South Coast area, the soils having a high calcium content and hence the names of the wines in the top-end Limitados range. Gunter Schultz, previously of Kleinood in Stellenbosch, is winemaker and brings a deft hand to bear in the cellar. Tasting notes and ratings as follows:

Price: R285
Matured for 12 months in French oak, 50% new. Exotic aromatics of lemon, orange, grapefruit, pineapple and melon as well as bee’s wax. Rich and round on the palate, tangy acidity lending balance. Characterful and full of flavour.

Baleia Limitados The Conglomeration Effect Syrah 2020
Price: R285
Red berries, fynbos, smoked meat and black pepper on the nose while the palate has good fruit weight, fresh acidity and powdery tannins. This has presence (alcohol is 14%) and good depth of flavour.
