Botanica Chenin Blanc 2012

By , 5 January 2015

Flower power.

Flower power.

That a 5-Star rating in Platter’s only counts for so much is demonstrated by the fact that the Botanica Chenin Blanc 2012 which earned the guide’s ultimate rating in the 2014 edition is still available in retail – R185 a bottle at the Old Cape Wine Shop in Kommetjie.

It’s stupendously good. Lime, white peach and a subtle leesy quality on the nose and palate. Weightless intensity, bright acidity and a long, savoury finish. It’s one of those wines you want to spend hours and hours contemplating but equally is just so damn delicious that it disappears in a flash. Wonderfully observed on the part of winemaker Ginny Povall.

Score: 94/100.

Couldn’t agree more. Had a bottle a few days ago and it stood out among a heady line-up of festive wine pleasures…

Thanks so much for the kind words Christian and Melvyn! It’s a new year and I’m finally selling the 2013 vintage so if you find the 2012 grab it as there isn’t any left in ZA.
