Hoë Steen Chenin Blanc 2015
Price: R500 a bottle
From a 50-year-old Swartland vineyard planted on mixed soils of iron and granite. A tantalising nose of pear, white peach, citrus, apple and dried herbs. The palate, meanwhile, is supremely elegant with great fruit purity and freshness. Nothing obvious about it and so well balanced – thrilling to drink.
Skaliekop Chenin Blanc 2015
From a 31 year-old-vineyard planted on shale on Swartland property Paardebosch. A top note of talcum powder before white and yellow peach, naartjie, orange plus a little spice. Quite forceful with super-concentrated fruit and tangy acidity – sure to have many fans.
