South African chef awarded a Michelin star

The 2016 edition of the Guide Michelin – France was launched earlier this week with Restaurant JAN, situated in Nice and headed up by South African Jan Hendrick van der Westhuizen, picking up its first star.
To put the achievement into perspective, the guide features a total of 600 Michelin-star restaurants, 26 rated three stars, 82 two stars and 492 one star.
Restaurant JAN serves a season-based tasting menu, featuring at least in part adaptations of South African favourites. See this week’s menu here.
