WO Swartland. From three dryland bushvine vineyards on the farm, some of the grapes partially de-stemmed, some left to ferment as whole bunch, all vinified and aged separately in combo concrete tanks, wooden foudres and old barrels for 11 months before blending and bottling. Nose is intriguing, showing violets and hints of clove, tar and smoke as well as ripe dark fruit with an almost cordial-like intensity. On the palate there’s blueberry and black cherry fruit, also a pleasant cherry pip bitterness. Full-bodied yet elegant with bright acidity balancing soft tannins, rounded mouthfeel.
