Elgin Ridge, certified both organic and biodynamic, has been acquired by Radford Dale from founders Brian and Marion Smith. The couple purchased what was then a neglected apple farm in Elgin in 2007 to start making wine – they had previously owned a successful IT business in London. In August 2017, Marion launched the Biodynamic Organic Association, whose aim was to act as the reference point as to which wine producers are certified organic and biodynamic in South Africa.
Although the farm now has new owners, the Smiths will carry on selling their current stock of bottled Elgin Ridge wines. They also intend to spend more time traveling and visiting with friends but will continue to live in South Africa.
