Francois Rautenbach (57) is stepping down as general manager of Singita Premier Wine Direct at the end of February. Singita operates 16 luxury lodges across Africa, total wine stocks rumoured to be 200 000 bottles at any one time. A key part of the Premier Wine Direct programme is that wines enjoyed by guests on safari can be shipped around the world to be enjoyed at home.
Rautenbach has been with Singita for 23 years, starting as head chef at the Sabi Sand lodge. He has no formal career plans at this stage but looks forward to consulting to both the wine and hospitality industries. He is an experienced wine judge and often sits on the Winemag.co.za panel.
