Nedbank Green Wine Awards 2014: results

Results of the sixth annual Nedbank Green Wine Awards were announced earlier today. There were 49 entries of wines from organically grown grapes and 104 entries of wines from BWI members.

This year’s results (full coverage available with the November issue of Getaway):

Best wines made from Organically Grown Grapes
Best White, Best Wine Overall: Reyneke Chenin Blanc 2013
Best Red: Waverley Hills CW Reserve Shiraz 2011

Best Biodiversity and Wine Initiative Wines
Best White, Best Wine Overall: Hermanuspietersfontein Die Bartho 2012
Best Red: Cederberg Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

The second component of the competition is Best Farming Practices Awards, a minimum requirement of entry for this being a 70 percent rating with Integrated Wine Production, a voluntary sustainability scheme that was established in 1998.

Best Contribution to Farming Practices and Production Integrity: Bartinney
Best (Sustainable) Contribution to Tourism: La Motte
