Nederburg Auction 2013 sales figures
By Christian Eedes, 8 September 2013
The Nederburg Auction seems to have turned a corner in quite dramatic fashion this year – volumes down, prices up. Specifically, 12 426 litres worth close on R4.4 million sold this year compared to 25 444 litres worth R4.7 million in 2012, which amounts to a 91% increase in price per litre paid.
No doubt a much tougher selection process has helped – the informal tasting of wines to be auctioned which took place on Friday morning revealed hardly any duds.
Beyond that, however, it’s a bit difficult to understand what precisely happened this weekend. The weak rand? Not at all – South African buyers increased from 60% in 2012 to 63.1% this year.
