SA Wine Harvest Commemorative Event 2026

The SA Wine Harvest Commemorative Event is held annually at the beginning of February in commemoration of the first vintage on South African soil in 1659. This year, five industry figures were honoured for their lasting influence, these being:

The Retief family of Van Loveren – 1659 Visionary Leadership

Denzel Swarts, sales and brand executive at Zoetendal, Elim – Growing Inclusivity

Pieter Ferreira, dedication to Cap Classique – Wine Advancement

Charl Theron, 50-plus years in production, education, and consultation – Viti- and Viniculture

Wilfred Fortuin, next-generation cellar worker – Wine Agri-Worker
