Topical pic: Spier Frans K. Smit – an icon in the making?
By Christian Eedes, 17 November 2010
The 2006 vintage of Spier Frans K. Smit (a blend of 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Shiraz and the rest equal parts of Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot and Pinotage) is rated 5 Stars in Platter’s 2011 duplicating the performance of the 2005 (51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 22% Shiraz and 5% Pinotage) in the 2010 edition (maiden 2004 not tasted). A wine to keep an eye on then, but only if you’re loaded: The 2005 is still available from the tasting room for R695 a bottle.
