The panel is  James Pietersen, beverage manager for Balducci’s and Belthazar restaurants in Cape Town, Pieter de Waal, secretary of the Sauvignon Blanc Interest Group, Trizanne Barnard of Trizanne Wines, Francois Rautenbach of Singita Game Reserves and me.

Last year’s tasting produced two wines rated 5 Stars (namely Delaire 2009 and Graham Beck Pheasants’ Run 2009) as well as 13 rated 4½ Stars and 33 rated 4 Stars. These wre mainly from the exceptional 2009 vintage and it will be interesting to see how 2010 matches up.
