A.A. Badenhorst Family Wines Raaigras Grenache 2015
By Christian Eedes, 28 September 2016
From a 1951 vineyard planted on the Badenhorst’s Swartland farm. The 2015 is utterly captivating. The nose is very forthcoming, the first impression being of wild strawberry and raspberry but there is also a floral note – more rose than lavender – as well as coriander and other spices. The palate possesses lovely form – pure fruit, a cracking line of acidity before prickly tannins, the finish long and deeply savoury. So true and unadulterated. One of the best modern SA reds yet. Wine Cellar price: R425 a bottle.
