Beaumont New Baby 2016

Rock-a-bye.

The relatively new white blend known as New Baby from Bot River property Beaumont is priced above the extremely accomplished Hope Marguerite Chenin Blanc so you’re entitled to expect good things.

The current-release 2016 seems a bit more subdued compared to the maiden 2015, at least for now. A blend of 35% Chenin Blanc, 19% Sauvignon Blanc, 18% Semillon, 18% Colombar and 10% Chardonnay. Vinification involved fermentation and maturion for 12 months in 400-litre barrels, 30% new.

The nose is rather shy with indistinct notes of pear, white peach, citrus, hay and some yeasty complexity in evidence. The palate is well balanced but light (alcohol: 12.5%) and seemingly quite plain at the moment but there is a sense of harmony about the wine which bodes well for the future. Wine Cellar price: R335 a bottle.

Editor’s rating: 91/100.

    It’s Beautifully integrated, & a lovely textured mouthfeel !
