Beeslaar Pinotage 2018

As you might expect from the man who makes Kanonkop Pinotage, Abrie Beeslaar’s own-label rendition does not suffer from being too delicate, the 2018 matured for 21 months in French oak, 40% new and alcohol being 14.5%.
The nose shows plums and black cherry plus incense, vanilla and spice while the palate is rich and full, relatively smooth in texture but not short of freshness and though it starts sweet, the finish is dry and savoury. For all its intensity, it’s also very well balanced. Price: R565 a bottle.
CE’s rating: 94/100.
