Boschendal Jean Le Long Blanc de Blancs 2007
By Christian Eedes, 24 February 2015
The Jean Le Long Blanc de Blancs 2007 is the “prestige cuvee” in Boschendal’s Méthode Cap Classique range selling for R450 a bottle. 100% Chardonnay, five years on the lees before disgorgement and a further year on the cork before release.
It’s a dramatic stuff. Ripe citrus, brioche and even a little bee’s wax – extremely rich and flavourful, tangy acidity and a fine mousse. Tasty but if you’re good for the asking price, then I think there are more refined bubblies out there.
