Boschkloof Syrah 2023
By Christian Eedes, 25 February 2025
The Syrah 2023 as made by Reenen Borman of Stellenbosch property Boschkloof is nothing if not flamboyant. Gorgeous aromatics of violets, black berries and black pepper and briefly more base notes of smoked meat and earth lead into a palate that is luscious but not too sweet – excellent fruit purity, bright acidity and powdery, quite soft tannins. Matured for 10 months in 225-litre barrels, of which 10% were new, alcohol is 14%. Arguably a bit callow now, it should be that much more resolved in 12 months’ time. Price: R280 a bottle.
CE’s rating: 92/100.
