Capensis Silene Chardonnay 2022
By Christian Eedes, 11 April 2025
Capensis started out a joint venture between Barbara Banke of US wine company Jackson Family Wines and Anthony Beck of Graham Beck Wines but is now solely owned by Banke. It specialises in Chardonnay, Silene being one of three cuvees, the lowest in price at R395 a bottle.
Grapes from various sites across Stellenbosch including own property Fijnbosch, it was matured in a variety of vessels including barrels, of which 30% were new, foudre and clay pot.
The nose shows lemon, grapefruit, some nuttiness and lots of leesy character while the palate is rich and flavour, thick textured with well-coated acidity and a savoury finish. Unapologetically bold in style. Alc: 14%.
CE’s rating: 92/100.
