Carinus Family Vineyards Rooidraai Chenin Blanc 2018

The 2018 vintage of Rooidraai Chenin Blanc, grapes from Hugo Carinus’s Swartland property and the wine made by Lukas van Loggerenberg, is the best yet.
Harvest involved four pickings, each at different levels of ripeness, providing the building blocks to achieve maximum complexity. Fermentation occurred spontaneously and maturation lasted 10 months in old oak.
The nose has lovely aromatics of flowers and fresh herbs before citrus, apple and peach while the palate shows great depth of fruit and an exhilarating line of acidity before a savoury finish. The product of both astute viticulture and winemaking, it’s a joy to drink. Price: R275 a bottle.
Editor’s rating: 96/100.
