Casa da Baleia Vinhos Rochas 2020

By , 15 December 2021

The Baleia vineyards are situated on the lime-rich banks of the Lower Duiwenhoks River near the Cape South Coast town of Vermaaklikheid, and Gunter Schultz, previously of Kleinood in Stellenbosch, has been the winemaker since 2019.

The Vinhos Rochas 2020 comes attractively packaged (bronze at this year’s Label Design Awards) and offers great everyday drinking at R92.65 a bottle. From 59% Tempranillo, 35% Syrah and 6% Pinot Noir, the nose shows berries, pomegranate, dried flowers, herbs and spice while the palate has good fruit density, bright acidity and fine tannins. A fun drop.

CE’s rating: 89/100.
