Creation current releases

If you farm in any of the three Hemel-en-Aarde wards, then you’re pretty much obliged to have a Pinot Noir offering. Creation, situated in Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, make various versions, tasting notes and ratings for the two top-end current releases as follows:
Creation Reserve Pinot Noir 2019
Price: R370
Matured for 12 months in French oak, 35% new. An attractive nose with notes of floral perfume, red and blackberries, earth and spice. The palate is rich and full (alcohol is 13.81%) but a little awkward with extra ripe fruit playing off against quite hard tannins, the wine appearing unduly drying on the finish.
CE’s rating: 89/100.
Creation The Art of Pinot Noir 2018
Price: R910
A vineyard and barrel selection – 4 100 bottles made. 40% whole-bunch fermentation. Matured for 12 months in French oak, 50% new. A complex nose with notes of red and black cherries, musk, white pepper and cloves on the nose. The palate is full (alcohol is 14%) but tightly wound even so – good depth of fruit, fresh acidity and nicely grippy tannins.
CE’s rating: 92/100.
