Creation Syrah Grenache 2019

By , 4 November 2021

Whereas the general Hemel-en-Aarde area is known for Chardonnay when it comes to white wines and Pinot Noir when it comes to reds, Creation in the Ridge ward is inclined to give just about everything a go.

Established in 2002 by Swiss-born JC and South African-born Carolyn Martin, there are now some 50ha under vine. The Syrah Grenache 2019 is a 75:25 blend, matured for 14 months in barrel, 25% new. Enticing aromatics of red and black berries, potpourri, fresh herbs, smoked meat and white pepper while the palate is relatively full and round – fruity and fresh (alcohol is 14.2%) with fine tannins. Immediately likeable but not too challenging. Price: R220 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 90/100.
