Delaire Graff Redstone 2015

A steal.

Upmarket retailer Woolworths stocks wines generally available in the trade but also increasingly collaborate with producers to provide wines exclusively bottled for their customers. So, for instance, you can buy the Bordeaux-style red blend that is Botmaskop from Delaire Graff (no vintage specified on the website) in Stellenbosch for R169.95 a bottle or you can buy 2015 vintage “baby Botmaskop” called Redstone for R129.95.

The Redstone is a blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Malbec, 8% Cabernet Franc, 8% Petit Verdot and 3% Merlot and has apparently been styled to be just that little bit more accessible earlier on than Botmaskop. It’s pretty damn smart with a very expressive nose of black fruit, some leafiness, a hint of pencil shavings and spice while the palate has extraordinarily pure fruit, fresh acidity and lovely fine tannins. Totally over-delivers at the price.
