Diemersdal Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2015

Lean, mean fighting machine.

The Reserve Sauvignon Blanc from Durbanville property Diemersdal is priced at R100 a bottle compared to the standard label at R60 and the Eight Rows at R125 but the 2015 is hardly “mid-range”.

From an 11 year old vineyard planted at 450m above sea level, the wine spent four months on the lees post fermentation. On the nose, a note which others would call “flinty” but I would say is just the right amount of

reduction plus lime, pear, white peach and a little talcum-powder dustiness. The palate is lean but very pure with driving acidity and a super-dry finish. “Beautifully pitched” to quote colleague Melvyn Minnaar. Alc 13.83%, RS 2.1 g/l, TA 7.7g/l, pH 3.22.

#WinemagRating: 92/100.
