Durbanville Wine Valley The Master’s Vineyards 2016

The GS 1966, made from Durbanville Cabernet Sauvignon, has become the stuff of legend and when the 2016 vintage marking the 50th anniversary of this wine came around, Thys Louw of Diemersdal and Wilhelm Coetzee of Durbanville Hills decided to make a tribute wine from grapes grown on the very same site, located on a farm called Morgenster.
Each winemaker made one barrel, these blended after 24 months, total production amounting to 1 200 bottles. The result is once again a superb advertisement for Cab from this ward. Intense cassis plus hints of cigar box and pencil shavings on the nose while the palate shows plenty of depth, bright acidity and fine tannins. Excellent fruit integrity and absolutely nothing herbaceous about it. Price: R950 per three-bottle case.
