Gabriëlskloof The Landscape Series Elodie Chenin Blanc 2018
Price: R290
From two Swartland vineyards, one on ferricrete and the other on granite. A floral top note before peach and apple with some earthiness in the background on the nose while the palate shows plenty of fruit concentration and punchy acidity before a dry finish – power-packed despite a relatively moderated alcohol of 13%.
Editor’s rating: 93/100.
Gabriëlskloof The Landscape Series Syrah on Sandstone 2017
Price: R375
Own fruit. 40% whole-bunch fermentation, maturation lasting 14 months in 500-litre barrels, 30% new. An enticing nose of red fruit, fynbos and pepper while the palate is marked by purity and lightness – clean fruit, good freshness and very fine tannins make for a very pretty wine. Alcohol: 14%.
Editor’s rating: 95/100.
