Gäbrielskloof The Landscape Series Elodie Chenin Blanc 2015

Pretty as a picture.

The Reserve range from Gäbrielskloof in Bot River has been renamed the Landscape series, wine labels  featuring paintings by artist Niel Jonker. Winemaker Peter-Allan Finlayson sources grapes from around the Cape and a new wine in the series is a Swartland Chenin Blanc from the 2015 vintage called Elodie.

Matured for eight months in old 400- and 500-litre barrels, it shows orange and peach, spice and some yeasty complexity on the nose. The palate has breadth and depth – luscious fruit, zesty acidity and a gently savoury finish. Particularly pleasing on account of a generosity and expressiveness that’s sometimes absent in Chenin from this part of the world.  Wine Cellar price: R240 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 94/100.
