Hamilton Russell Vineyards Pinot Noir 2017
By Christian Eedes, 17 September 2018
Whereas Pinot Noir is very often a boutique offering in South Africa, this is not so when it comes to Hemel-en-Aarde Valley producer Hamilton Russell Vineyards who produced 3 909 twelve-bottle cases of the current-release 2017.
Matured for 10 months in French oak, 37% new, the 2017 comes across as light, clean and fresh. On the nose, red and black fruit plus a pronounced herbal, almost minty note to go with a little musk and spice while the palate is pure with crunchy tannins, the finish particularly dry. Wine Cellar price: R500 a bottle.
Editor’s rating: 90/100.
