Intellego Syrah 2019

By , 5 March 2021

While the 2019 vintage of the red blend that is Kedungu from Jurgen Gouws of Intellego is all about charm (somewhat surprisingly given that is driven by Mourvèrde which can be quite wild), the straight Syrah of the same vintage is more direct and uninhibited.

Winemaking involved 100% whole-bunch, semi-carbonic fermentation before 10 months of maturation in old oak. Alluring aromatics of dark berries, lavender, fynbos, earth and spice while the palate possesses dense fruit, lemon-like acidity and grippy tannins before a super-dry finish. Absolutely no affectation in evidence. Price: R200 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 94/100.
