Kraaltjies Chenin Blanc 2025
By Christian Eedes, 22 September 2025
Kraaltjies Chenin Blanc 2025, made by Johann Smit, viticulturist at Perdeberg, comes from Swartland vines planted on ancient, circular termite nests – known as “kraaltjies” in Afrikaans. Smit believes these nests enrich the soil, contributing to the wine’s distinct character.
Unoaked, the wine offers delicate aromatics of floral perfume, quince, pear, and peach. On the palate, the wine is clean and fruit-driven, with a subtly creamy texture and moderate acidity. Well balanced and broadly appealing. Alc: 13.2%. Price: R350 a bottle.
CE’s rating: 90/100.
