Krone RD 2001

A matter of timing.

The gearing up of the MCC brand that is Krone since coming under the custodianship of producer-wholesaler Vinimark continues with the launch of Krone RD 2001.

“RD” means “Recently Disgorged”, this wine having spent 15 years on the lees, the extended period of maturation lending extra complexity but the wine supposedly staying fresher than if it had been aged under cork.

The wine is very expressive showing pear, apple, citrus and peach plus some biscuit and a little nuttiness. It makes for quite curious drinking, being fresh enough but the bubble is soft to start with and fades quickly. Bubbly geeks will want to try it, however. Approximate retail price: R350 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 90/100.
