Le Chant Blanc 2024
Price: R236
Grapes from two Chenin Blanc blocks one planted in 1978 and the other in 1988, the wine now bearing OVP certification for the first time. Matured in concrete tank and old oak for 11 months. The nose shows lime, pear, peach, flowers and herbs while the palate is lean but not skeletal – pure, tightly wound and pithy. Lovely clarity and drive lend this wine a particular elegance. Alc: 13%.
CE’s rating: 93/100.
Le Chant Rouge 2020
Price: R236
42% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 5% Shiraz, 4% Sangiovese, 3% Malbec, 2% Petit Verdot. Matured for 24 months in a combination of barrel, foudre and concrete tanks. Red berries, sun-dried tomato, rose, some leafiness and spice on the nose while the palate is medium bodied with fresh acidity and a savoury finish. Nicely understated. Alc: 13.5%.
CE’s rating: 91/100.

Both of these Le Chant wines are superb and, in a remarkably short time, have secured a respectable foothold in the South African wine market – well done to Petri Venter and his team! 🍷
