Merlot, as we all know, is notoriously tricky under local conditions but Stellenbosch property has done a good job with this bottling from the 2018 vintage. Matured for 18 months in older oak, the nose shows red cherry, plum, olive, a hint of mint and oak spice while the palate is medium bodied with good freshness and fine tannins. It’s a nicely balanced, approachable wine. Price: R250 a bottle.
