Luddite Chenin 2014

Puts hair on your chest.

The Chenin Blanc 2014 from Bot River cellar Luddite is as quirky as ever. Partly from own plantings and partly from 40 to 60 year old vines on the Van der Stel Pass, both batches were fermented spontaneously on skins, maturation lasting 12 months in old oak.

It has a conspicuous struck match note on the nose but also green apple, white and yellow peach and a little wet wool character. The palate is rich with wonderfully pure, concentrated fruit, fresh acidity and a savoury finish. As with previous vintages, there’s a rough-hewn quality about the wine which some will appreciate and others won’t… Approximate retail price: R225 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 88/100.
