Mariëtte Chenin Blanc 2015

Promising debut.

Mariëtte Chenin Blanc 2015 is the flagship offering from Stofberg Family Vineyards, another of the Breedekloof producers intent on making a name with this particular variety. From a 33-year-old vineyard, the wine was fermented and matured for nine months in second-fill 225-litre barrels.

The nose shows a little volatile acidity as well as notes of peach, yellow apple and spanspek, vanilla and some bread-like character. The palate meanwhile is rich and broad with nicely coated acidity. It’s a somewhat curious but undoubtedly flavourful offering. Price: R175 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 88/100.
