Meerlust Cabernet Sauvignon 1975

The 1975 Cabernet Sauvignon was the first wine to carry the Meerlust label and to celebrate the 40th anniversary, current winemaker Chris Williams recently hosted a tasting which culminated in this very bottling.
A haunting nose of red fruit, violets, earth and black olive. The palate light but not lacking in detail – alcohol by volume a mere 11%, the acidity fresh acidity and tannins fine, the finish long and savoury. “Vivacious” was the word William used to describe it and he wasn’t wrong.
#WinemagRating: 93/100.

I have a bottle like this. Does anyone know what it’s worth?

Hi Bender, In 2019, a three-bottle lot sold for R7 966 (the equivalent of R2 655 a bottle) on a Strauss & Co auction.

Hi, Christian
Would anyone be able to say if there was any Cinsau(l)t in this wine (no “green” notes, 11% ABV, red fruits)?

Hi Kwispedoor, It came up for discussion during the tasting but no definitive answer was forthcoming and I suspect we shall never know for sure…
