Merwida Family Vintners Chenin Blanc 2016
By Christian Eedes, 9 May 2017
The Opstal Carl Everson has put Breedekloof on the map when it comes to Chenin Blanc and other wineries in the region are now chasing hard, the Family Vintners 2016 from Merwida being a case in point.
Grapes from 15 year old vines, fermentation was begun in tank and finished in barrel of various sizes and ages, maturation lasting nine months. The nose shows honeysuckle, pear, peach and some straw plus spice and a hint of vanilla. It’s rich, full and flavourful – good quality relative to price at R120 a bottle.
