Momento Grenache Noir 2019
By Christian Eedes, 29 June 2021
Marelise Niemann says she likes local Grenache Noir for its understatement and her 2019 is nothing if not that. From Swartland grapes, winemaking involved 30% whole-bunch fermentation before maturation lasting 16 months in old French oak barrels.
Subtle aromatics of red berries, floral perfume, dried herbs, and spice precede a palate that is delicate and poised – pure fruit, bright acidity, and powdery tannins. Immensely pleasurable to drink. Price: R300 a bottle.
CE’s rating: 92/100.
