Mullineux Straw Wine 2015

Light on its feet.

Too often straw wine is more liqueur than wine for me but the 2015 from Swartland producer Mullineux has a delicacy and intricacy about it that I admire.

Grapes were dried for three weeks, juice undergoing spontaneous fermentation in older barrels, maturation lasting 12 months. On the nose, potpourri before fresh and cut apple and a little spice.  The palate is intensely flavoured with fresh acidity, a subtle savoury quality to the finish. Not overly oxidative, not too viscous or cloying. Price: R285 per 375ml bottle.

#WinemagRating: 92/100.
