Newton Johnson Albariño 2015

By , 24 March 2016

Spanish fly.

You won’t find mention of on the Albariño 2015 from Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley property Newton Johnson on their website or in Platter’s 2016 but you will find it on the winelist at Woodstock restaurant Burrata for R260 a bottle or alternatively from retailer Wine Cellar for R135 a bottle.

The Newton Johnsons grafted over 0.5ha to the Spanish variety a few years ago and the 2015 is the first commercial release. The wine shows citrus, peach and a little spice. It’s full flavoured with good palate weight but equally not short of freshness – a very promising addition to the South African repitoire.

#WinemagRating: 91/100.
