Ormonde Chip Off the Old Block Shiraz 2017

By , 9 December 2021

At R150 a bottle, the Chip Off the Old Block Shiraz 2017 from Darling cellar Ormonde over-delivers. Grapes from a single vineyard planted in the early 1980s, maturation lasted 12 months in second- and third-fill oak. The nose is intensely peppery but also shows red berries, leather, earth and a hint of smokiness while the palate is juicy and fresh with a savoury finish. With a modest alcohol of 12.5%, it’s a very more-ish sort of wine.

CE’s rating: 91/100.
