Quoin Rock Black Series MCC 2018
By Christian Eedes, 11 December 2024
Quoin Rock sells the 2017 vintage of its top-end Black Series MCC for R900 per bottle (see review here) and the more recently released 2018 for R750. Of the two, I think it’s the latter that works better, having spent less time on the lees and less residual sugar.
A blend of 52% Chardonnay and 48% Pinot Noir, it was disgorged after some four years (compared to just under seven years in the case of the 2017). The nose shows peach, citrus, green apple and some flinty reduction while the palate is lean and tightly wound – pure fruit, zippy acidity, a fine mousse and a bone-dry finish.
CE’s rating: 93/100.
