Radford Dale new releases

By , 4 November 2020

Radford Dale winemaker Jacques de Klerk favours restraint over power, this again evident in the 2019 vintages of Chardonnay and Freedom Pinot Noir. Tasting notes and ratings as follows:

Radford Dale Chardonnay 2019
Price: R310
Lemon, oatmeal and a hint of reduction on the nose while the palate shows pure fruit and zippy acidity before a gently savoury finish. Not without texture even though the wine does not go through malolactic fermentation and batonage is eschewed.

CE’s rating: 91/100.

Radford Dale Freedom Pinot Noir 2019
Price: R415
Aromatics of red and black cherries plus rose, herbs and a little earthiness. The palate is pleasantly lean (alcohol is 12%) with bright acidity and crunchy tannins, the finish long and dry – this has a winning vibrancy about it.

CE’s rating: 91/100.
