The cult-like following for the Chenin Blanc as made by Sakkie Mouton from Koekenaap grapes grows and grows although the currently available 2019 remains uncertified and therefore the new label makes no claims about variety, vintage or place of origin.

According to Gregsherwood.com,  grapes for the 2019 were picked significantly earlier than the 2018 and it shows. On the nose, subtle notes of pear, white peach, lime, green apple and herbs while the palate is lean with driving acidity and a saline finish. It’s a particular take on the variety, that much more severe than its predecessor. Approximate retail price: R500 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 92/100.
