Road to Santiago Semillon 2016

No 2015 of the Road to Santiago Semillon from Rickety Bridge winemaker Wynand Grobler as he deemed it too unconventional for release but the 2016 picks up where the impressive 2014 left off.
Grapes from a Franschhoek vineyard planted in 1905, maturation lasted 12 months in a combination of old barrels and foudre. The nose shows hay before pear, peach and pineapple, the start of some waxy character and a little oatmeal. The palate is rich and nicely thick textured, tangy acidity lending verve, while a little phenolic grip on the finish adds further interest. Price: R750 a bottle.
Editor’s rating: 95/100.

unless blended w younger vines, it a tiny volume, surely not enough for Foudre?

Hi Jonathan,
We produce three different blends from this vineyard, all from the old vineyard but different components. We have Foudre,Concrete and small barrel components.
Please feel free to come and visit us at the cellar and taste all of them!
