Roan Ranger 2014
By Christian Eedes, 30 May 2016
Roan Ranger, a blend of Cinsaut, Grenache and Mourvèdre from Darling nègociant Charles Withington, first came to light when the 2013 vintage won silver at the Wine Label Design Awards earlier this year. The 2014 is now available at R83 a bottle and rather delicious it is, too.
Cranberry, strawberry, plums and black cherry upfront plus a hint of spice and a touch of earthiness. It’s fruit-forward but not unduly sweet, fresh but not too much so and there’s no real tannic grip to speak of, all of which makes it entirely smashable.
