Steenberg Nebbiolo 2014
By Christian Eedes, 1 August 2016
The Nebbiolo from Constantia property Steenberg started out as not much more than a curiosity but recent vintages have gained in stature and the 2014 is perhaps the best yet.
Matured for 16 months in a combination of 225- and 500-litre barrels, 9% new, the wine is complex and balanced. On the nose, red fruit, roses and crushed herbs plus a hint of vanilla and spice. The palate is light bodied yet intensely flavoured with a definite tomato cocktail quality on the finish. Good freshness and fine tannins. Price: R235 a bottle.
#WinemagRating: 92/100.
